Reverend Dr. Kevin A. Slayton, Sr.

Pastor, Northwood Appold United Methodist Church

Email: Pastor at NAUMCBaltimore.com

Reverend Dr. K. A. Slayton embodies the values and spirit of the elders that raised him to show respect for all of God’s people. After several years of serving in the non-profit sector and legislative arena working to address the needs of countless individuals living on the margins of society, he accepted his calling to preach the gospel. For the past fifteen years, he has combined his passion for public policy and prophetic preaching to impact the lives of so many. And although he’s a welcome guest at the table of many of this nation’s most influential leaders, in public and private life, at his core he will always be the voice of that little boy growing up on E. 9th Street in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Being one of the first in his family to attend college Dr. Slayton received his Bachelor of Science degree in finance and economics from Alabama A&M University. He went on to acquire a Master of Divinity degree from Howard University in Washington, DC, and a doctorate from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, New York. Whether it was as Public Policy Director for the Public Justice Center, Program Officer with Associated Black Charities, Executive Director for the Baltimore City General Assembly Delegation, or as lead consultant with his own firm, the Slayton Group, Dr. Slayton has never wavered in his commitment to the pursuit of justice and equality.

Today, Dr. Slayton keeps a very healthy vocational profile as the pastor of Northwood-Appold United Methodist Church, Campaign Manager with the Maryland Center on Economic Policy, and Adjunct Professor at Lancaster Theological Seminary. He is equally committed to his community serving as Religious Affairs Chair of the Maryland State Conference of the NAACP and Baltimore Alumni Chapter, Chaplain. Dr. Slayton thanks God every day for bringing his wife, Diya into his life. Together they live in the heart of Baltimore City where thrive and serve the community. He is also honored to serve as the senior pastor of the Lanham UMC Church in Lanham, Maryland.
